The wine cellar |
|
Since
1788 all wine brands of Muri-Gries have been stored in the exquisite
rooms of the former Austin canons. At that time, the chorus had to move
from the old gothic chapel into a newly built boroque church. The cellar
is undoubtedly the monastery core and people can feel tradition and
history there, where making wine has always been considered a main
activity. In the inner yard there is still a big wooden wine press (also
German Torggl) with the year 1549 engraved on it. It reminds
anybody who is in charge of Muri-Gries, of both their task and duty.
Up-to-date machines and tools are made to fit the old cellar rooms. In
an old collegiate church there
is a fermentation cellar, also called “Ansetz”, along with
high-grade steel tanks to press the wine. In
the 800-year-old stronghold basement big wooden barrels lie instead.
What concerns wine processing guidelines as well as the enterprise
philosophy of Muri-Gries, the company staff believe both in the use of
non-polluting processing and in traditional working methods, not
forgetting up-to-date wine making intelligence – however without
exceeding all reasonable limits. That is to say, the wine has its say
here! The wine cellarmen and their workmates provide all conditions that
are likely to make the best wine and to attain very high quality
standards. |
